WISDOM OF THE OAK TREE
The Oak Tree has been a common symbol of strength and endurance for centuries. It is also known as the tree of doors, not only because many of the doors in our homes are made of oak, but because it represents a portal to our inner spirituality. For generations, people seeking new understanding and vision have sat beneath the oak tree to gain strength and renewal of spirit. The new perspectives and revelations gained from this experience can help us restore faith in our highest self and have the courage to face whatever lies ahead, aiming for what we most want in life and leading us to take action.
Oak has been significant for all cultures and throughout time. Its strength and magnitude represents endurance and power. In the Judeo/Christian bible, Joshua erects a stone under an oak tree as the first covenant with God. In Celtic mythology it is believed to be a gateway between worlds, and in Classical mythology a symbol of Zeus and his sacred tree. Both the Gaelic and Sanskrit word for the oak is duir, the "door" of creating change. To the Native Americans, the oak twig symbolized summoning the Holy.
Because it is often struck by lightening and is resilient, the oak is associated with inspiration, illumination, and transformation. It is said that sitting with an oak will soothe the nervous system and help you solve problems, bringing about calm and the will to survive. Its flower remedy is known to ease tension and increase vitality, and its leaves and bark are used medicinally to heal wounds. As with any creation, it is wise to remember to be grateful to the Divine presence in all with an attitude of love and respect.
Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.
